This is as good as it is going to get for a little while – so don’t waste the sunshine and warm temperatures this afternoon. A cold front and associated chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives tomorrow, as of right now there is not much of a severe weather threat with Friday’s front…and thunder and lightning may even be a little scarce with this one. In the wake of this cold front we expect a real fall-like feel for the weekend with afternoon high temperatures only in the low to mid 70s! A couple rain showers cannot be ruled out during the afternoon heating hours, but any light rain should remain on the spotty side and will not ruin any scheduled outdoor plans you may have. Skies will stay cool and quiet into Tuesday, and then we should get started on another warming trend for the middle of next week. As winds turn back out of the south and draw up a little more humidity, the chance for scattered showers and storms returns for Wednesday and Thursday, but there does not appear to be anything terribly strong or concerning coming our way through the end of the next work week. Stay tuned!
Storm Chances…
While today will still deliver some much-needed rain for our parched lawns, our severe thunderstorm chances took a big blow when the thick cloud cover moved in. There will be some rain in the area through about mid-afternoon, and skies will stay generally cloudy through that time too…but some sun could break out late and re-ignite some storms. The late-day activity will probably not be sun-aided enough to grow to severe levels, and that’s not a bad thing really. There will still be some rain around into the overnight, but we think skies will stay dry for Thursday with the severe weather threat getting shoved just to our south. That dry forecast for Thursday is really a tough call because there will likely be storms firing just to our south…we’ll be keeping a close eye on it. Another cold front is scheduled to swing through on Friday with some related shower and storm activity, it should not be severe though and chilly blast of air for July will then move in for the weekend. We are expecting afternoon high temperatures in the low to mid 70s on about our hottest time of the year…unusual no doubt, but this summer ahs been that way. Skies should stay quiet for about the first half of next week with temperatures staying below mid-July averages, but there will be a rebound back into the lower 80s by Tuesday and Wednesday. Stay tuned!
Almost Too Good To Be True…
The weather really came around for our Sunday, enjoy what is left of this beautiful day…but not in a way like it’s going to run out. Monday and Tuesday will be just as nice with plenty of sunshine expected, and the afternoons will have that warm but not oppressively hot and humid feel to them. The next couple nights will be nice too with generally clear skies and temperatures already down into the 60s by about midnight and into the daybreak hours…meaning you may even be able to turn the air conditioning off late – and that’s almost unheard of for the Tri-State in July!!! By Wednesday it’s really going to heat up and get steamy as the next weather system approaches, we do expect at least some stormy weather on Wednesday, however to what extent is still somewhat unknown because we may find ourselves in a capped situation where there is even hotter air a mile up overhead compared to the warm and steamy air we will be suffering through here at the ground, and that can prevent storms from really taking off. Some storms could still fire on Thursday with the hot and humid sticking around for one more day before it all gets shoved south and jet stream winds take a sharp turn out of the northwest, and that means cool Canadian air will move in and probably stick around through next weekend. A couple showers could pop up during the heating of the afternoon on Friday…otherwise it’s smooth sailing with very comfortable air locked in overhead until early next week. Stay tuned!
We Got Lucky Today…
We ended up on the lucky side of things today with nasty weather in Indianapolis, Dayton, Columbus and Huntington, WV…with only some scattered showers and storms here in the Tri-state. Rain should slowly push through along a cold front this evening, and that will mean a merciful drop in humidity levels for Sunday along with some sunshine. A few showers and storms could try to move back in already by Monday, but it should not be anything serious or an all-day rainout. Tuesday looks dry and pretty nice, then on Wednesday we could be facing a severe weather threat with more warm and super-humid moving in ahead of a cold front that is forecast to swing through Wednesday night. There could be a severe weather threat on Wednesday – and that is something we will be keeping a close eye on. After that everything settles down and gets real nice for the end of the week. Thursday through Sunday appear to be banner days of summertime weather with afternoon highs in the lower 80s and comfortable humidity levels…we’ll keep our fingers crossed for that! Stay tuned…
More Shade Today…
There is more cloud cover around today, but otherwise it’s about the same as the past couple afternoons…very pleasant outside. Scattered morning sprinkles south and west of the metro have about dried up, and we may see a bit of a decreasing trend to the cloud cover this afternoon. While skies are not completely quiet in the region and a warm front will be lifting back to the north through Thursday, rain chances are almost non-existent for us (much like with this morning’s sprinkles) and we just expect passing clouds for the most part. Behind that warm front on Friday, we have a chance at hitting 90 degrees, and humidity levels will jump right into that uncomfortable range too. Saturday will be a hot and steamy day before a cold front moves through late, and we think that could provide the recipe for some strong to severe thunderstorms late in the day and into the overnight. That cold front is expected to move out of the area by Sunday afternoon, but there could still be some rain and storms around on Sunday morning. As we head into next week, that cold front that moves out of the area Sunday morning could lift back to the north as a warm/stationary front on Monday and into Tuesday providing the focus for more showers and thunderstorm activity – and then by Wednesday as it lifts further to the north, we could find ourselves firmly in the warm sector and see a couple humid 90-degree afternoons on Wednesday and Thursday. Stay tuned!
Lookin’ Good!
It’s probably safe to remove the rain from the forecast today, any showers that may pop up should be so isolated that it’s hard to justify mentioning the chance. The same story kind of applies to Wednesday too, just too small a chance for rain to bother mentioning. For the most part we stay dry and enjoy the comfortable summertime feel. Northwest and north winds over the next couple days will act to keep the humidity down, and that’s a rare thing to come across in July here in the Tri-State! On Thursday winds will turn around and draw up more heat and humidity, and by Friday it will feel down right uncomfortable with highs at 90 or above and a full dose of steam too. That unstable air then will still be in place on Saturday when a cold front is scheduled to move through – that could result in some strong to severe storms on Saturday and we will be keeping a close eye on that. There is some uncertainty as to whether or not that system will be out of the area by Sunday…as of right now we are thinking Sunday will be dry and we are down to just mentioning a slight chance for rain on the day, and that’s definitely the half of the weekend that you will want to schedule any outdoor plans on. The early call on Monday and Tuesday of next week is for dry skies, but we could see the hot and steamy air make a quick return with upper 80s or even some 90s possible. Rain could find us again on Wednesday. Stay tuned!
Summer Is Back!
Now this is more like it! The sun is out in full force, and temperatures are responding nicely this afternoon with highs expected to be in the mid 80s. All this while the humidity stays fairly low – it’s just a perfect afternoon. As we head into Tuesday afternoon there may be a few scattered storms popping up, but rain chances are pretty low. The small chance for scattered storms needs to stay in the forecast through Wednesday, but by Thursday we think the area will stay rain free as some hot and humid air tries to move in. While we may not quite hit the 90-degree mark on Thursday, we probably will on Friday as the humidity really takes off on us. Into the upcoming weekend a cold front is forecast to move through, as of right now the timing is uncertain so we need to broadbrush the rain chances into both days and wait for a more consistent solution out of our long-range forecast information. One overall trend to the forecast is that everything seems to be progressively warming, so the summer heat may finally be here to stay. Stay tuned!

Getting Much Better!
It took almost all day for the clouds to break, but a little late-day sunshine did break out and the evening looks pretty good for any delayed firework celebrations. As the clearing trend continues overnight, a good cooling effort is expected. That combined with the leftover puddles drying up could lead to some patchy dense fog late tonight and into the daybreak hours of Monday. Other than that…Monday should be a super day with a warm but not hot or humid afternoon, and the same goes for Tuesday. One thing we will have to watch for this week is what a stalled-out weather system over the Great Lakes, and whether or not it can through any rain our way. There is too small a chance to really mention n the forecast on Tuesday, but on Wednesday a push of cold air from the north combined with a warm push from the southwest could lead to some rain in our area on Wednesday and into Thursday. Confidence is not great in how this will play out unfortunately so this will be another week that we need to take day to day, and farmers in the area are getting antsy to bail hay because we have had a hard time stringing four dry days together to get the job done. The latest long-term forecast information now keeps Friday dry – holding off a cold front until Saturday and into Sunday with the heat and humidity really building before that front comes through. Stay tuned!
Rainy 4th…
Not much we can do about the rain showers out there this evening, but on the positive side we do not expect much thunder and lightning and the severe weather threat is close to zero. There will be a sharp dividing line between where it absolutely pours and scattered showers…basically points south of a line from Indianapolis to Cincinnati to about Morehead, Kentucky receive a washout into Sunday morning with up to two inches of rain possible…whereas points north of that line get only scattered showers with only some light rain by the time you hit Dayton or Columbus. It will improve for Sunday, after a few morning showers skies should dry up with some afternoon sunshine – and then it’s smooth sailing for several days. Monday and Tuesday look like absolutely perfect summertime days, and then the heat and humidity builds for Thursday and Friday with 90s possible. Our long-range forecast information is suggesting a cold front for the second half of Friday, and that could mean some strong storms for the area…we’ll keep our eyes on it. Stay tuned!
