After another afternoon with temperatures up around 60 degrees, get ready for a return to winter. A cold front will swing through overnight resulting in some scattered rain showers, and by Monday morning’s drive into work I think most of the rain will be east of the metro with just some leftover puddles to slog through after the long holiday weekend. Winds will be a little gusty though as the cold air pours back into the Ohio Valley, and it will feel like 30s with the wind through much of the day as the thermometer struggles to hit 45 or so. Skies will calm down into Tuesday, and the first day of December will actually be pretty nice with a chance at hitting 50 degrees along with some sunshine. It’s going to get fun by Wednesday with a big storm system forecast to lift out of Texas and into Appalachia, we will probably see rain showers develop and a gusty wind develop through Wednesday, and then a monster shot of cold air will arrive for Thursday really dropping temperatures and changing what little moisture will be left over to snow. Any snowfall accumulation is looking doubtful other than maybe a dusting, but it will definitely be cold enough to turn any wet spots to ice and slick stretches on the roadways cannot be ruled out. We had still better mention a chance for light snow on Friday, but in this active weather pattern a southwesterly wind will kick back in on Saturday with another area of rain possibly trying to push in late in the day. As another big storm cranks up, we may end up on the warm side of it meaning rain showers are expected Sunday and Monday as heavy snow could blanket the Western Great Lakes. Stay tuned!
A Busy Week Of Weather Ahead…
We have shed that Thanksgiving chill nicely as most spots were up close to 60 degrees this afternoon with all that sunshine and the southerly winds. Even though skies are clear tonight, it should not get as cold overnight because the winds will probably not calm all the way down and there is a little more moisture in the air. We will wake up to sunshine on Sunday morning and then watch the clouds roll back in and eventually bring some rain showers, but it’s only a chance for scattered showers during the afternoon as the best chance for rain will hold off until after dark – so it looks pretty good for the Bengals game with temperatures still warm and only a couple hit and miss showers possible before the game ends. A cold front will move through Sunday night with a good chance for rain associated with it into Monday morning, but after the morning commute on Monday skies should dry out pretty quickly as a northwest wind kicks in and allows some chilly Canadian air to settle in to the Ohio Valley. Skies should stay quiet for Tuesday, but by Wednesday a big storm system is forecast move in from the southwest bringing rain, and eventually some snow by Thursday and possibly into part of Friday. It does not look like we will see a lot of snow, I would say a ground coating would probably be the high end of it, but that does not mean the roads will stay problem free because some seriously cold air is expected to blow in on the back side of this one so we will have to watch things closely over the next few days. We are also seeing signs of possibly another storm developing with the chance for more winter weather next weekend too…stay tuned!
Snowflakes Still On Track…
The morning fog and cloud cover is taking its sweet time to break up, but eventually we expect some sunshine to be seen this afternoon. Those light southerly winds are keeping the mild temperatures around, and enjoy the relatively comfortable feel outdoors because some much cooler air is headed our way by Thanksgiving. A big storm system in the Midwest will move into the Ohio Valley tonight and some rain showers look like a good bet after midnight and into the Wednesday morning commute. Then Wednesday will turn into a partly sunny and on and off light rain type of day, and even though some cooler air will be pushing in…it should still be fairly mild. Thanksgiving Day is when the bottom will fall out of the thermometer, temperatures will plunge down into the 30s during the morning with some light rain, and we will probably see rain start to mix with and changeover to light snow during the afternoon and evening. Light snow is expected to continue into Friday morning, and that coupled with temperatures around freezing means we could have some slick spots for those early bird shoppers. Our little taste of winter should end by Friday afternoon and then things should quiet down for Saturday and most of Sunday. The next storm system we need to watch is going to come at us from the southwest Sunday night, and this will be a storm that produces some heavy snow…unfortunately snow lovers it is probably all going to be out to our west. Here in the Tri-State we will probably see a rainy Monday and then a mix of rain and snow for Tuesday with little or no accumulation expected into Wednesday when it all starts to wind down. It could get very windy as this storm passes by early next week so be ready for that and we will keep our eyes on it. Stay tuned!
Going To Get Interesting…
While we cannot rule out a few rain showers today, our Monday will be mainly dry with just a lot of cloud cover hanging around. In the temperature department though…we are not doing too bad with the average high this time around 50 degrees, and we will stay above that today, and for the next couple days. Clouds should break up a little overnight, but light southerly winds will keep temperatures mild, and Tuesday will be a very nice late fall day with some sunshine around. The next storm system arrives Tuesday night pushing a cold front through with a chance for rain showers, and then on Wednesday we will looks for a few more rain showers as cold air slowly filters in and winds start to pick up. Thanksgiving Day Thursday is when the really cold air arrives, and it looks like we could see light rain start to mix with snow by afternoon or evening. The first flakes rarely stick, and these will probably melt on contact too, however Thursday night and into Friday morning light snow will continue to be possible, and we expect temperatures to drop to right around freezing – so at this point we cannot rule out a light coating on the ground and some slick spots on the roads for those early bird black Friday shoppers. Friday will be a chilly day with flurries and light snow showers possibly mixing with light rain as the heating of the day plays out, but this initial blast of winter should come to an end Friday night with a little rebound on the thermometer coming for Saturday and Sunday. At this point it looks like we will stay dry for Saturday and Sunday too, so as everybody heads back home late on the holiday weekend it should be pretty quiet across the region. Now – early next week could be really interesting with our long range forecast information suggesting that a big storm will spin up for Monday and Tuesday in the Ohio Valley. There will probably be a band of heavy snow extending from somewhere in the South-Central US like Arkansas up into the Great Lakes states – at this point it’s hard to say where that will be but early indications keep it all west of the Tri-State with rain and wintry mix possible for us. It would not take much of a shift eastward in the track of this storm to put us in the big snow, but at the same time if it tracks further west it would be all rain…all we can do as now is wait and watch, and keep your fingers crossed if you love snow
Stay tuned!
Snowflakes Still On Track For The End Of The Week…
Well here come the clouds, but that’s probably all it is going to be for us as the next weather system races up the east coast. A slight chance for a shower cannot be ruled out for the southeastern counties of our viewing area, but most spots down that way will probably stay dry. Cloudy nights are typically warmer, and we expect that to hold true for us overnight with lows only dropping down to about 40 degrees by Monday morning, quite a bit milder than the last couple. We will get to enjoy a couple more pleasant days of fall weather on Monday and Tuesday with just passing clouds and temperatures are expected to hit the mid 50s during the afternoon…about 5 above average for this time of year. The next weather system will move into the area on Tuesday night dragging a cold front through and an associated chance for rain showers. Wednesday will be a cooler day with still a few rain showers hanging around, but it will be Thanksgiving Day Thursday that the bottom kind of falls out of the forecast with cold air plunging south out of Canada, and we will probably see rain and snow on the day. With Thanksgiving Day temperatures expected to hit 40 during the afternoon, we are not really concerned with too many travel troubles because the snow would melt and the roadways would stay wet. By Friday morning however, we could wake up to a light coating of snow with temperatures at or below freezing – so black Friday shoppers may be battling the elements a little. Light snow possibly mixed with rain showers should come to an end Friday, and some improvements are expected for next weekend with dry skies Saturday, ad then maybe a weak weather system with a slight chance for rain showers on Sunday. Stay tuned!
This Week Is In Like A Lamb And Out Like A Lion!
Yet another very nice November weekend here in the Tri-State! Expectations always lower this time of year because we all know winter is eventually win the battle, but our afternoons with 50-degree temperatures and lots of sunshine are always appreciated this time of year. Chilly temperatures are expected overnight underneath clear skies, and then Sunday will be another very pleasant fall day. A big storm system off to our south may result in more cloud cover on Monday, but we should stay dry and continue to see relatively mild temperatures. A storm system moving in from the west will cloud up skies on Tuesday and try to bring some rain showers for the afternoon – but the best chance for rain on Tuesday will probably hold off until after dark. This storm will bring a cold front through Tuesday night and then pull down some of the coldest air we have seen so far this fall as Thanksgiving Day approaches. Wednesday – the big travel day – is looking like a cool day with a little rain around, and as the cold air continues to move in and moisture lingers across the area, we are probably in for those first snowflakes of the season on Thanksgiving Thursday! I would be surprised if the snow accumulated to more than a dusting on grassy surfaces where it can live for a while suspended above the relatively warm ground, but we could see a light wintry mix or light snow last into Friday too which is when we think temperatures will dip down to freezing or slightly below. That means early bird black Friday shoppers could have slick spots to deal with…fortunately by the end of the day Friday our light wintry mix should wind down, and next weekend when everybody travels back home it does look dry across most of the Ohio Valley with temperatures recovering a little. Stay tuned!
Rain Slowly Approaching…
The clouds swallowed us up this afternoon, and it’s looking like they will stick around for the next several days…eventually delivering some rain, but not for a little while yet. The clouds will help keep us mild overnight, but at the same time we will be a little cooler tomorrow without much sunshine. By the end of the day on Monday there will be a slight chance for scattered showers, but a better chance for rain will arrive on Tuesday as a slow-moving storm system gets close. Tuesday could shape up to be one of those on and off rainy days, and Wednesday could play out in a similar fashion as that storm basically parks itself to our west for the day. Even with the clouds and rain, temperatures should stay relatively warm for where we are at on the calendar, and by Thursday that storm lifts to the north and we do not see any kind of cool down behind it. Thursday should be a dry day with decreasing clouds, and then we will have to watch for a weak little disturbance to scoot through on Friday bringing a slight chance for rain showers, but it’s hardly going to be enough to mention. The outlook for next weekend has improved considerably; the next storm system is showing signs of slowing down which would result in a sunny and mild Saturday, and then a windy and warmer Sunday with the next cold front and chance for rain approaching…but not arriving until Monday. Stay tuned!
Doin’ Just Fine This November…
Well this sure felt good, we almost hit 70 degrees again today, just like last weekend! The increase in cloud cover today will make for mild evening and overnight temperatures, and it will stay very comfortable through Sunday. There will be more cloud cover than sunshine to wrap up the weekend, but skies will stay dry and temperatures should climb back into the 60s…another victory lap for your favorite summer t-shirt! Clouds will continue to thicken on Monday, and temperatures will continue to trend down a little meaning we may be stuck in the 50s on Monday and then stay there for the week ahead. But take a moment to look at the calendar – here we are into the second half of November this week and the average high is in the lower 50s with average lows in the mid 30s, and we will probably stay above both of those numbers for the entire week. We will watch a developing weather system move out of the Rockies and into the Midwest, and then basically stall out just to our west. It will get close enough to kick up a few rain showers for Tuesday and Wednesday, just enough to wet those leaves down and give the plants a little drink. You do not want it to get too dry this time of year with the increasingly available fuel source for wildfires so this light rain will come just in time to keep the fire danger down. By Thursday that slow moving system crawls far enough to the north that we can dry out the forecast for Thursday and Friday with no surges of cold air moving in, so we expect to stay mild. A deep look into the crystal ball suggests there could be another weather system and chance for rain moving on Saturday, and then we see dry skies for Sunday with continued supply of mild air. Stay tuned!
The Sun Is Back…But Now It’s Cold. Boooooooo…..
Well at least the sun is out…and I say that because it sure does feel cooler than the past several days, no doubt the winds just drive that chill right into you. It will stay breezy through the afternoon, and Thursday will still be kind of windy, but not as bad as today. Tonight will be another one of those cloud free chilly nights, but the forecast low of 38 is because of the warm breeze off of the metro keeping CVG out in Hebron warmer than everybody else, a lot of us will be right around freezing early Thursday morning with some frost on the windshield. The weather is going to stay relatively quiet for the next several days with lots of sunshine, and by Friday our northeast winds will turn southeast and we should get started on the next warming trend. Saturday looks very nice at this point with temperatures possibly getting close to 70 degrees once again, then a weak cold front is forecast to push into the area on Sunday bringing a slight chance for scattered rain showers. At this point it looks like most of us will stay dry on Sunday though, and Monday will probably be a day where the clouds just hang around but nothing else happens. The next good chance for rain returns on Tuesday and into Wednesday with a slow-moving storm system arriving from the west, it doesn’t look to be too powerful with only on/off rain expected Tuesday and Wednesday with perhaps a few showers spilling into Thursday. At this point however we do not see any signs of the super-cold wintertime air plunging south or any chance for snow worth mentioning but we will keep an eye on it…stay tuned!
Cloudy Isn’t So Bad…
The sun will probably stay hidden today as a cold front tries to move in from the north and the remnants of Hurricane Ida throw a lot of cloud cover our way from the south. But at least temperatures are still quite mild for this time of year, our average highs in mid November are in the mid to upper 50s, and we should still beat that even without much sunshine. Now we cannot rule out a stray shower or a few sprinkles, but don’t expect much rain around here because this cold front did not have much to work with in the first place and as Ida is squeezing out any possible moisture inflow along the Gulf Coast. Clouds should break up overnight and we see lots on sunshine for Wednesday, but it will definitely be cooler, and winds will be a bit gusty as we get caught up between a strong area of high pressure up around the Great Lakes and the remnants of Ida bombing out into a big storm system along the east coast. Winds should start to calm down on Thursday, and we see a quiet stretch of weather setting up coupled with another warming trend for the Ohio Valley as the work week winds down. Right now the weekend is shaping up nicely too, we originally thought a weather system would move through and bring some rain on Sunday, but that front has basically fallen apart in out long-range information, and we may wait until Tuesday for another storm system and chance for rain to arrive…which means there is no good chance for rain until almost the middle of next week. Stay tuned!
