The sun will probably stay hidden today as a cold front tries to move in from the north and the remnants of Hurricane Ida throw a lot of cloud cover our way from the south. But at least temperatures are still quite mild for this time of year, our average highs in mid November are in the mid to upper 50s, and we should still beat that even without much sunshine. Now we cannot rule out a stray shower or a few sprinkles, but don’t expect much rain around here because this cold front did not have much to work with in the first place and as Ida is squeezing out any possible moisture inflow along the Gulf Coast. Clouds should break up overnight and we see lots on sunshine for Wednesday, but it will definitely be cooler, and winds will be a bit gusty as we get caught up between a strong area of high pressure up around the Great Lakes and the remnants of Ida bombing out into a big storm system along the east coast. Winds should start to calm down on Thursday, and we see a quiet stretch of weather setting up coupled with another warming trend for the Ohio Valley as the work week winds down. Right now the weekend is shaping up nicely too, we originally thought a weather system would move through and bring some rain on Sunday, but that front has basically fallen apart in out long-range information, and we may wait until Tuesday for another storm system and chance for rain to arrive…which means there is no good chance for rain until almost the middle of next week. Stay tuned!
One More Time!
Chalk up another beautiful day, sadly though they are getting short and we all know winter is coming one way or another. Sunday made two 70s in a row and we are thinking there will be one more before the next cold front and chance for rain arrives. This will be another overnight with clear skies, but those light south winds should blow just enough to keep temperatures unseasonably mild and in the 40s, and that mild start will act as a springboard for temperatures to hit 70 degrees again Monday afternoon – even with increasing clouds later in the day. Tuesday looks mostly cloudy, and a cold front will knock temperatures down and try to squeeze out a few showers, but we are not expecting a lot of rain as the remnants of Hurricane Ida are expected to move into the southern Gulf coast states early in the week and use up any moisture trying to surge north. As Ida’s remnants blossom into a major storm system and slowly works up the east coast, that will help to pull some cool air out of Canada and into the Ohio Valley for Wednesday and Thursday, and it will also probably result in some gusty winds around here too. By Friday the next warming trend will kick in, keep in mind mid-November averages are 55 degree range, and we should exceed that for the end of the week and through next weekend. Our long-range forecast information keeps suggesting a weekend cold front, but today’s version has slowed things down until Sunday, so we will mention a chance for rain Sunday after a dry Saturday, but this does not look like a very strong storm system so next weekend looks decent at this point. Stay tuned!
Indian Summer…
It’s easy to forget how good 70 degrees feels, but t-shirts and sunglasses were back in style as the Tri-state enjoyed a beauty! Now we typically talk about chilly temperatures underneath clear skies at night, but not this time as southwesterly winds should blow with enough speed to keep temperatures mild through the overnight. And those mild Sunday morning low temperatures will act as a springboard for temperatures to jump right back up to about 70 during the afternoon, it should be an absolutely beautiful day for tailgaters and fans around Paul Brown Stadium – and winds should not be quite as breezy as they were on Saturday afternoon. The good times keep rolling for Monday with afternoon temperatures once again up around 70, but clouds will increase later in the day as the next cold front and chance for rain approaches. We are going with a chance for rain showers on Tuesday as a cold front moves through, this system with its origins in the Pacific Northwest comes into the Ohio Valley with very little moisture to work with so don’t expect much more than a chance for scattered showers – however I would expect a cool down on Wednesday and Thursday as another shot of Canadian air plunges south. That growingly persistent westerly flow will try to kick back in late in the week and that will probably mean milder temperatures return for Friday and Saturday, and we will have to watch for another cold front to possibly come in late Saturday with another chance for rain. Stay tuned!
First Week Of November Looks Chilly…
November has basically picked up right where October left off, on the cool side. All that Sunday sunshine felt good, but we will pay the price for it overnight as temperatures drop like a rock underneath the clear skies. A sub-freezing start is a good best in most spots; I’d count on having to scrape the windshield if you do not park your car in a garage. After we get through the cold start, Monday should turn into a pretty nice day though with light south winds and an afternoon high temperature close to 60 degrees. We will watch clouds increase through the day as a cold front approaches, and that cold front will swing through Monday night with basically no moisture to work with – so it will just be an increase in cloud cover with about a zero chance for rain. Clouds will depart on Tuesday morning, and then get ready for a Canadian blast of sunshine with bright skies and a wind chill that will barely allow temperatures to reach 50 degrees. On Wednesday another clipper-type system will move in, this one with a little more oomph so we will mention a chance for scattered rain showers with it. With clouds around for the day and a little rain, we may not even hit 50 degrees on Wednesday and behind this system another blast of wind-driven cold rolls in for Thursday with temperatures expected to stay in the 40s for the afternoon. Finally on Friday we bottom out temperature-wise and start to turn it around, but it will be a slow recovery and we will wait for the weekend before afternoon highs are expected to climb back to around 60 degrees. The good news is that the weekend outlook had improved somewhat…it looks dry right now with sunshine both days to go along with the warmup. Stay tuned!
Slightly Unsettled…
Well at least the rain was not a factor for the trick-or-treaters, those clouds overhead are actually in the slow process of fizzling out. As we lose that cloud cover overnight you can count on chilly temperatures for daybreak Sunday morning, possibly cold enough for a little frost on what’s left of your pumpkin! Otherwise Sunday looks like a completely quiet day with lots of cool sunshine and light winds to cooperate with any leaf cleanup operation you may have going on. Monday will be another day with quiet weather, but it does look a little warmer for the afternoon with some clouds pushing in late. As opposed to being in a very stormy weather pattern last week, the weather pattern setting up for this week only looks slightly unsettled with the jetstream blowing from west to east with just a little push from north to south. That means coolish temperatures with lots of weak Alberta-clipper type weather systems which are tough to time, but at the same time almost insignificant because they have so little moisture to work with. We will just see the clouds come and go from time to time this week. Now the first clipper we are watching swings through early Tuesday morning with only a slight chance for rain, then there will be another one on Wednesday that could squeeze out a few showers, but we are not too impressed with that one either. It should calm down some for Thursday and Friday with warmer temperatures creeping back into the area, only to about 60 though, and then we’ll gear up for a stronger cold front to swing through almost splitting the weekend in half and an associated chance for rain. Stay tuned!
Sunny And Warmer…Then Rainy And Cooler…Typical Fall Around Here.
It took a while, but those clouds did finally did break this afternoon and we are left with quite a comfortable evening to enjoy. If you like to take an evening walk underneath a little daylight don’t waste this one, because remember next week those sunsets will becoming at about 5:30 as we will be out of daylight saving time starting on Sunday. Skies should clear out overnight resulting in chilly temperatures, however but you will notice our overnight low is forecast to be 47 degrees…remember that’s for CVG and we will have an east wind pushing the warm downtown air out to the western half of the metro, a lot of us will feel cooler temperatures than that by tomorrow morning – with a touch of fog possible too. Other than the patchy morning fog, Thursday should be an absolutely beautiful day with the chance at hitting 70 degrees, which is something we have not done on this unusually cool October of 2009. Clouds will quickly rush back into the area Thursday night, and another round of rain will follow shortly thereafter. It looks like we could be in for yet another rainy Friday and soggy evening on the high school football fields. Friday could bring on and off rain and thunderstorms along with gusty winds, but it will be a southerly wind that will bring another chance at possibly hitting 70 degrees between rounds of showers. With the rain still being fed by that deep southwesterly flow in the atmosphere, heavy downpours will once again be possible. Now the extended part of the forecast has been giving us fits just about all week long, and we are still not seeing a consistent solution, however as we trend towards the latest information Saturday is looking like another day with soaking rains that could continue for the better part of the day and certainly into the evening hours…sorry trick-or-treaters
Sunday does look dry however, but definitely cooler with afternoon highs down into the mid 50s for the first day of November. Yesterday we were seeing the possibility of an Alberta clipper-type system moving in on Tuesday and possibly squeezing out some wet snowflakes…well I’m happy to report that we can take those out of the forecast for now, but that clipper may dive into the region on Monday resulting in some light rain as temperatures may not climb out of the 40s, and then Tuesday and Wednesday look dry with slightly moderating temperatures. Stay tuned!
Wild Weather Ride Ahead!
Rain moved in today on cue with most of us seeing steady showers for the dinner hour, and this big surge of moisture will probably bring some heavier downpours late tonight and into early Wednesday morning. Temperatures should stay fairly steady overnight though with all the clouds and moisture around. We think this batch of rain will quickly push out of the area early tomorrow morning and all that will be left for the commute into work will be some puddles. Clouds will gradually decrease through the day tomorrow and that should result in a little afternoon sunshine, but only enough to nudge temperatures just past the 60-degree mark late in the day. Thursday is the day we are really looking forward to with lots on sunshine and temperatures possibly hitting the 70-degree mark for the first time this month – which is kind unusual for October which is typically so comfortable and mild. The next round of rain is expected to arrive on Friday, but confidence has decreased with exactly how the day will play out with diverging solutions now coming from our computer models. The latest info suggests rain already in the area by morning with the possibility for some thunderstorms, and then on and off showers through the day with the warm temperatures still hanging around…so another potentially soggy night on the high school football fields is certainly possible. Rain should push out of the area Friday night, but then a southern storm could develop and clip us with some rain showers Saturday afternoon and evening as it makes its way towards the east coast, so we cannot guarantee dry skies anymore for the Trick-or-Treaters anymore unfortunately. Behind all this we dry out for Sunday and Monday with some chilly air settling into the region. And then a deep look into the crystal ball shower an Alberta Clipper-type system moving in on Tuesday with cold enough air to possible result in the first wet snowflakes of the season. Buckle those seatbelts folks and stay tuned!
Great Evening For A Walk!
We are capping off this absolutely beautiful Monday with a very comfortable evening, and don’t waste it because by this time tomorrow it will probably be downpouring. Clouds will return overnight, but not until after midnight and that should help keep overnight low temperatures in the 40s so it will not be quite as cool at the bus stop on Tuesday morning. While we do expect rain on Tuesday, it will probably not arrive until evening for most of us, with just a chance for scattered showers during the afternoon. Rain is likely Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, but this may time out favorably for the Wednesday morning commute with showers out of the area by that time. Clouds will be slow to break up through Wednesday, but at this point we will hold out a little hope for some afternoon sunshine, and we don’t really see any colder air wanting to rush in behind this batch of rain…if anything the broad southwesterly flow in the atmosphere will continue to pump warm air up our way. That means Thursday does bring the chance to hit 70 degrees for the first time this month with a lot of sunshine expected – keep your fingers crossed! Another round of rain associated with a much stronger storm system is expected to move in on Friday, and there could be some wind-driven thunderstorms on Friday afternoon as a strong cold front plows through the region on Friday night. All signs still point to dry skies for the weekend with this system well off to our east by Saturday morning…and it will be cooler, but the coldest air behind this storm is not expected to arrive until Sunday – so expect partly cloudy skies on both Saturday and Sunday, and probably another dry and cool day on Monday of next week. We do get out of daylight saving time next weekend, kind of a depressing thought, but by next Sunday evening it will be dark by 6pm…ugh. Stay tuned!
Still Looking Warm & Unsettled…
After the chilly start, this Sunday really left nothing to complain about with comfortable temperatures and plenty of sunshine until late in the day. I think we will see the clouds depart late this evening – making for a great evening with slowly falling temperatures, but temperatures will drop quickly after midnight and we’ll probably be back in the upper 30s by daybreak Monday morning. But Monday is a dress in layers day with a coat early, and then a t-shirt for the afternoon with a lot of sunshine and light southerly winds. A stormy weather pattern taking shape out west looks like it will break up into two pieces and give us a 1-2 punch of soaking rains…the first of which will arrive late in the day on Tuesday. Look for increasing clouds Tuesday, but rain will probably hold off for most of us until about the dinner hour, and then rain with some heavy downpours will be likely Tuesday night. Showers should wind down Wednesday morning, and then we expect a good dose of sunshine for the afternoon along with continued mild temperatures. The second half of our 1-2 punch looks to have slowed down a little, and that’s a good thing because earlier it looked like we were in for some strong storms Thursday evening, instead a slower scenario is becoming more likely which should allow any severe storms that do develop to lose their punch before they arrive into the Tri-State on Friday morning. A healthy soaking rainfall is still expected though, and it could last through the day and linger into the high school football games. Cooler temperatures will move back in after the rain winds down, but all signs still point to dry skies for next weekend though. Clouds could linger through most of Saturday…but at this point it should be dry for all the trick-or-treaters with a temperature during the evening around 50 degrees. Sunday should be the sunnier day of the two, but it will still be cool. Stay tuned!
Busy, But Warm Week Ahead….
Despite the fall chill in the air, Saturday was certainly acceptable with the clouds breaking up late. Skies will stay mostly clear overnight, so you can count on a chilly start to Sunday morning with out the door temperatures in the upper 30s. The afternoon will bring a nice warm up as winds turn out of the south, high temperatures will push almost back into t-shirt territory and there should be plenty of sunshine…an almost perfect feel for the Bengals game! The next weather system is kind of setting up for a 1-2 punch, the first half will hold off until Tuesday afternoon…so with another day’s worth of southerly winds and sunshine, Monday looks great with afternoon temperatures getting pretty close to 70 degrees. Clouds will return on Tuesday, but there is still some uncertainty as to when rain will follow. Right now it looks like the best chance for rain will not come until the afternoon or possibly evening, and then rain is expected to continue overnight and possibly into Wednesday morning’s commute. We should dry out for the second half of Wednesday with no cold air rushing in behind the showers, and warm temperatures will continue in the broad southwesterly flow in the atmosphere as we await the second half of the 1-2 punch to arrive on Thursday. Now Thursday could be an interesting day that could produce some severe thunderstorms if things time out in an unfavorable way. A cold front is scheduled to move through during the evening with warm air and humidity surging north out ahead of it…possibly providing the ingredients for severe weather here in the Tri-state on Thursday afternoon/evening…we’ll be keeping a close eye on it. Behind those storms, a pattern change will allow the cold air to pour south out of Canada making for a breezy, cool and sprinkly Friday, but that blast of cool will not last too long as a return to mild temperatures is expected for next weekend with what appears to be dry skies right now for both Saturday and Sunday. Stay tuned!
